I've been playing this game for quite some time now. And, while I do understand that it is based on a work of fiction, I also contend that the weapons portrayed in this game should be just a little more... Shall we say, realistic. By that, I do not mean the graphics, far from that. The visual graphics are quite incredible. What I refer to is the lack of realistic DAMAGE, or in some instances, UNREALISTIC damage, that certain weapons incure.
Let me give you an example, paint you a picture, so to speak...
Recently, I was playing "Team Deathmatch" in the "Overwatch" map. My character was armed with a Remington ACR 6.8. Now, according to the weapon stats, this is a fairly "powerful" weapon, and I will concede that in real life, it is definitely a rifle that would get the job done! (Slightly shorter than a NATO 5.56x45mm, but with a larger diameter bullet, the Remington 6.8 can definitely "dish it out"!)
Now, this is where it gets interesting, or FRUSTRATING: I was able to put a full-auto burst into the head of an opposing player's character... HOWEVER, he didn't die, drop, take a dirt nap, or push daisies... call it what you will, he didn't go down. INSTEAD, what happened was that this same player, armed with a "Striker" shotgun (which, per the weapon stats, has the SAME DAMAGE as my ACR, with FAR less accuracy!) was able to bury my character with ONE SHOT! The first reaction to that was a slew of words that even a seasoned Navy veteran wouldn't repeat, and given that there are some minors that frequent this forum, I shall not put them here for all to see.
This was definitely not the first instance of this happening. According to the assorted weapon stats, the M4A1 has LESS power than the G36C, which is extremely hard to believe, considering that they both fire the EXACT SAME ROUND, the NATO 5.56x45mm. And, when you take into consideration that the "C" in G36C stands for COMPACT, it would stand to reason that the G36C would have LESS accuracy, but it doesn't... according to the game designers, it actually is MORE accurate (I can tell you from experience, it's not: The G36C has a barrel that is only NINE inches long; an M4 barrel is SIXTEEN inches long).
Like wise, I'm curious to know why it is that a Barrett .50 cal, when equipped with a suppressor, requires two rounds to the torso to put down an opponent? The reality of this particular weapon is that, even with a suppressor, one round can split a man in two! Why does it require more than that for this game? And, if we were to discuss range, the Barrett .50 has an effective range of 2700 meters, which means that a player, "armed" with this rifle and line of sight, could service any opponent anywhere on the map, from any location. (Also, a Barrett .50 can put rounds through a solid concrete wall... so, anyone shooting this should be racking up some SERIOUS "Blind Fire" points!)
So, if a similar scenario like this has happened to you, don't feel alone. I would surmise that there are MANY of us that are frustrated by this... (psst! Hey, Infinity Ward guys... this is the part where you might want to start rethinking the weapon stats for the next game. Just sayin'!)
On a side note, I would REALLY love to talk to the people responsible for programing the stats for each of the weapons in this game. Not to be disrespectful, but I get the feeling that they just looked at pictures of the different cartridges, and based the weapon data from what they saw, and programmed it in. The same could be said for the accuracy, and the range. I truly hope that is not the case, and it is just my opinion.
